The delicate saltiness of the herring perfectly complements the rich, slightly sweet, and earthy taste of pumpernickle. The fresh apple bursts through the mayonnaise makes this a nourishing irresistible topping. Feeling energised yet - you will do. To elevate this dish even further, consider adding a sprinkle of fresh dill or a squeeze of zesty lemon juice. The dill’s aromatic, slightly tangy notes pair beautifully with the herring, while the lemon cuts through the richness to create a refreshing balance. These small touches not only enhance the flavour but also add a gourmet flair to an already delectable treat.
